Deputy President Gachagua Reappears Amidst Kenya Kwanza Rift Speculations
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made his first public appearance on Sunday amidst rumors of a division within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.
Gachagua attended a church service at Endarasha Catholic Church in the Kieni constituency of Nyeri County.
His appearance follows days of speculation due to his noticeable absence from key state functions, with many suggesting he may have had a falling out with President William Ruto.
This speculation intensified when Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga saw off Uganda President Yoweri Museveni after his three-day state visit to Kenya.
President Ruto was in Rwanda when Museveni departed, and it was anticipated that at least Deputy President Gachagua would see Museveni off.

The Deputy President was also absent during the tree-planting holiday, an event led by Ruto and other government officials in various parts of the country.
Known for his active participation in state events and his close association with Ruto, Gachagua’s absence has been noticeable, with even his social media accounts remaining inactive.
Events surrounding the Limuru III meeting have further fueled speculation about a possible rift within Kenya Kwanza.
Recently, Gachagua has been advocating for the “one man, one vote, one shilling” campaign supported by some Mt. Kenya leaders. Attendees of the Limuru III meeting emphasized this cause and criticized Ruto for allegedly neglecting the Mt. Kenya region, which strongly backed him in the 2022 election.
The Limuru III meeting also led to the formation of the Haki Coalition, whose leaders claim it will help determine the future direction for the people of the Mt. Kenya region.
