Limuru III: The Mystery Behind Kikuyu Elders Blowing Horn 12 Times

During the Limuru III Conference on Friday, Kikuyu eldersย were actively involvedย in the proceedings. Leaders emphasized the importance of unity within the Mt Kenya region.

As part of the event, the elders were invited to perform a traditional blessing aimed at fostering unity among the region’s inhabitants. One elder, accompanied by several others, made a brief speech before blowing a horn twelve times.

The nine blows symbolized the nine Gikuyu subtribes, while the remaining three represented the unity of the Agikuyu, Embu, and Meru communities. This act was seen as a realization of their prayers leading up to the Limuru III meeting.

Speaking in Agikuyu, the elders highlighted the significance of the gathering, framing it as an answer to their prayers for community unity, which began with prayers conducted by elders and the church.

He expressed the belief that this meeting was a divine call for unity, stressing that whatever agreements were reached would be guided by God. The elder prayed that the sound of the horn would resonate with all Agikuyu, Embu, and Meru people, wherever they may be, urging them to unite and love one another.

According to Agikuyu tradition, the blowing of the horn holds various meanings depending on the occasion. It is used during ceremonies such as circumcision, oath-taking, the return of warriors from war, the installation of village elders, and the passing of respected individuals like chiefs.

The Limuru III conferenceย was convenedย by a group of leaders from the Mt Kenya region, spearheaded by Martha Karua of Narc Kenya and Jeremiah Kioni, the secretary general of Jubilee.ย Other notable figures present included former Governors Ferdinand Waititu and Ndiritu Muriithi, as well asย MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba, Amos Mwago, and Mark Mwenje, among others.
