ODM Address in Mathare Marred by Chaos: Goons Disrupt Event as Party Donates to Flood Victims
An intended address by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Mathare turned chaotic on Wednesday as some unruly youths stormed the venue, waving placards that criticized the area MP, Anthony Oluoch.
Meanwhile, ODM members, headed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, brought a shipment of donations for Mathare residents affected by floods, aligning with the aid endeavors overseen by the ODM Disaster Response Committee.
The situation escalated when the ODM team decided to speak to the crowd from the balcony of the deputy commissioner’s office in the area.
As is customary at local political gatherings, MP Oluoch took the stage to communicate with his constituents before prominent ODM figures such as Sifuna and former Governors Ali Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, both serving as the political outfit’s Deputy Party Leaders, could address the audience.
However, the gatecrashers weren’t receptive to Oluoch’s message, continuously heckling and disrupting his speech.

Sifuna had to step in to manage the situation, hastening the program and allowing Joho and Oparanya to speak before ending the event.
Earlier, on Tuesday, ODM had initiated its first round of donations for flood victims at Chungwa House, Nairobi, overseen by Joho and Oparanya.
This followed an announcement made on the previous Saturday.
“On Tuesday, May 14 at 10 am, we will be flagging off this consignment at Chungwa House. Our major appeal is for packed maize flour, rice, beans, and cooking oil for food items. For non-food items, we request blankets, mattresses, and housing prefabs,” the party had stated.
“Let us stand with the great people of Kenya during this difficult time.”
Those wishing to contribute have been directed to drop off donations at Chungwa House, with the party emphasizing that the assistance will benefit all Kenyans regardless of their political leanings.
