Senator Mungatana Criticizes DP Gachagua’s One Man, One Shilling Campaign: “You’re Headed in the Wrong Direction”

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana on Wednesday questioned the motive behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s declaration that he will spearhead the One Man, One Shilling Campaign.

In an interview with TV47, Mungatana scrutinized Gachagua’s announcement and even questioned whether Gachagua was aiming to succeed President William Ruto.

The senator criticized the campaign, arguing that it would lead to unequal resource and development distribution, disadvantaging certain regions.

He warned that Gachagua’s approach could harm his future presidential ambitions by alienating other regions.

“He strongly supports the idea of one man, one vote, one shilling. I, however, support one man, one vote, one square kilometer, so we have differing views. I want to inform the DP and his advisors that unless they consider counties like Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, Taita Taveta, and Marsabit as important,” Mungatana stated.

“If his goal is to become President, he’s on the wrong path and needs to be told that we are all very disappointed with him.”

Moreover, the senator emphasized that Gachagua’s statement was not an official stance of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party but his personal opinion.

“He should be forgiven as he was seeking applause in a specific area, but I want to clarify that it is not the UDA’s stance. We have never convened as the UDA party to endorse the policy announced by the DP,” Mungatana added.

“When making such statements, at least convene a PG meeting to propose and discuss it, but if you go public, I will also go public to state you’re wrong.”

The comments also drew criticism from Public Service CS Moses Kuria, who argued that Mt Kenya was adequately represented in the Kenya Kwanza government.

This past Sunday, Gachagua pointed out neglect within the Mt Kenya region and pledged to support the policy to allocate more resources to his home region.
