Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management, Moses Kuria, elicited laughter in Siaya County with his assertion of being the offspring of the late Jaramogi Oginga, renowned as the father of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.

Kuria proudly attributed his political upbringing to Jaramogi, highlighting his tutelage under the seasoned politician amidst an atmosphere of amusement.

These declarations unfolded during a national tree-planting initiative in Siaya on Friday, May 10, a day designated by President William Ruto to commemorate flood victims.

Kuria disclosed that he had notified Mr. Odinga of his impending visit to Siaya County, humorously recounting a conversation wherein he jokingly sought permission to visit his “home.”

Unexpectedly, Kuria narrated, Raila dismissed the need for formal permission, asserting Siaya as Kuria’s domain.

This exchange underscored the amicable rapport between the two politicians, indicating a departure from past political disagreements.

Kuria, reflecting on his tenure as the Cabinet Secretary for Commerce, proudly recounted his role in establishing industries in Siaya County.

Notably, he spearheaded the initiation of County Aggregation and Industrial Parks (CAIP) across various counties, including Siaya, aiming to bolster manufacturing and agro-industrial investment while enhancing the agricultural sector’s competitiveness and fostering job creation and economic growth.

The CAIP initiative, a collaborative effort between the National Government and county administrations, is geared towards sustainable development, aiming to augment productivity, increase farmers’ incomes, stimulate exports, and facilitate overall economic expansion.

Despite being critical of Raila Odinga during the 2022 general elections, Kuria signaled a reconciliation of sorts, suggesting a newfound alignment of interests.

This shift in dynamics is particularly noteworthy given Raila’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC), a candidacy supported by President Ruto’s administration, indicating a convergence of political objectives.
