Jeremy Clarkson Criticizes Jomo Kenyatta International Airport- Terms It One Of The ‘Stupidest Airports In The World’
English television host and automobile enthusiast Jeremy Clarkson has echoed the criticism from Kenya’s Larry Madowo regarding the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), expressing dissatisfaction with Kenya’s main airport.
Clarkson, responding to a discussion he started on X, criticized the JKIA in reaction to his followers’ comments about what they considered the world’s ‘stupidest airport’.
Initially, Clarkson identified the ‘stupidest airport in the world’ as being in Madrid, Spain, but changed his stance when a follower mentioned Lagos, Nigeria.
The followers described the Lagos airport as the worst, citing frequent unnecessary stops from the entrance to their seat.
When the conversation shifted to African airports, Clarkson expressed his view that JKIA in Nairobi was worse than Lagos airport.
“Fine, I’ll accept Lagos, but if we’re talking about Africa, I’ll bring up Nairobi,” he commented.
Some Kenyans agreed with the car enthusiast, but others found his remarks offensive and possibly discriminatory, expressing their disapproval.
“Mr. Clarkson, using such a large platform to criticize Kenya’s main airport is inappropriate. Nothing is perfect. European infrastructure has its problems too, but you don’t hear African celebrities talking about it…” a follower stated.

However, others agreed with Clarkson, noting that his comments supported CNN journalist Larry Madowo’s ongoing critique of JKIA.
“This tweet should be shared with Murkomen and Larry Madowo to hear their thoughts on Jeremy Clarkson’s opinion. Madowo isn’t the only one pushing for improvements at JKIA. It appears to be a global issue!” commented Esther Gathoni.
JKIA has frequently been in the news for various problems, such as frequent power outages that disrupt travelers’ plans.
Recently, a video surfaced showing the airport’s flooded premises, cold storage areas, and leaks in Terminal 1C, including check-in areas.
After inspecting the facility, Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced that several repairs would be completed within a month.
“Part of the leakage stems from aging infrastructure, such as the roof that was recently shown leaking on social media. The updated roof for Terminals 1B and 1C is under construction and should be finished in a month,” Murkomen stated.
