Details Of King Charles III’s Message To President Ruto

On Tuesday, May 7, King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom conveyed a message of support and condolences to President William Ruto amidst the severe floods in Kenya.

The King expressed regret over the increase in casualties and disruption to people’s lives due to climate change’s impact.

King Charles acknowledged the government’s efforts to manage the situation and urged additional support for Kenya.

“Mr. President, my wife and I are deeply troubled by the devastating floods affecting Kenya and the region, impacting many lives. We can only imagine the pain of those who have lost loved ones and their sources of income,” he said.

“Our thoughts are also with the emergency workers and others working tirelessly to assist those severely impacted.”

“The growing unpredictability and severity of weather patterns emphasize the urgency of global action to address climate change,” the King stated.

Reflecting on his recent visit to Kenya, the King emphasized the necessity of global unity in combating such effects.

King Charles and Queen Camilla visited Kenya from October 31 to November 3, 2023, hosted by President Ruto.

“During our visit last year, we discussed the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss, which affect us all and pose a threat to our world,” he added.

“Recalling the warm welcome we received during our visit and the close relationship between our countries, we offer our deepest condolences and support to the people of Kenya.”

The persistent heavy rains have disrupted daily life, affected livelihoods, and caused loss of life.

According to the Interior Ministry, as of May 6, 2024, 229 people have died, 174 were injured, and at least 234,685 people have been displaced.

The government established 167 shelters in 22 counties, providing for 70,451 Kenyans.

A 24-hour evacuation notice was also issued for people living near dams and reservoirs.
