Pastor Survives Shooting as Gunman’s Weapon Jams During Attack
A pastor narrowly escaped a shooting after the gunman’s weapon malfunctioned as he tried to pull the trigger.
The gun’s malfunction allowed members of the congregation to jump on the young man and overpower him.
A viral video shows Pastor Glenn Germany preaching before quickly hiding behind his pulpit as the gunman walks up, raises his arm, and points a gun at him.
BBC News reported that the gunman was identified as 26-year-old Bernard Polite. They also found another man, Derek Polite, shot dead at his home in North Braddock.
Polite faces attempted murder charges and others and was denied bail ahead of his preliminary hearing next week.
How Pastor Glenn survived the attack
The leader of the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church believes divine intervention saved him during the attack, as he heard the gun click instead of firing.
“I’m very thankful. He shot, and I heard the gun click,” the pastor said.
The pastor described how he saw Polite enter the church and smile at him, thinking he was going to talk to one of the congregation members.
“But instead, he walked up and pulled out the gun. I looked directly down the barrel,” the preacher added.
When the gun failed, church Deacon Clarence McCallister tackled Polite and helped restrain him while Germany took the weapon.
Germany said that Polite apologized and claimed he heard voices telling him to shoot the pastor.
Polite told police that “God instructed him to do it” and hoped imprisonment would help clear his mind.
Police fatally shoot Kitui pastor
In a separate incident, police in Kitui County shot a preacher who was involved in a robbery.
The officers found the pastor with a toy gun, a fake police radio, and a sharp double-edged sword.
Police stated that the pastor was caught in the act with a worshipper who managed to escape with gunshot injuries.
