US Embassy Announces Fresh Visa Rules Starting in 2 Weeks

Applicants for non-immigrant US visas in Kenya must present the same DS-160 application form during their visa interview as they used to schedule the appointment.

The US Embassy stated that if this isn’t followed, appointments will be canceled, and applicants will have to re-apply for new appointments.

The new rule will be enforced starting Saturday, May 18, this year.

Instructions for Applying for a DS-160 Form

Applicants should visit the non-immigrant visa application website, part of the United States Government, at ceac.state.gov/.

“The first step to apply for a U.S. nonimmigrant visa is to complete your application, which takes around 90 minutes. Once you submit your application, you can proceed with scheduling your interview,” says the website.

The applicant should print the confirmation page of their new DS-160 and bring it to their appointment.

After scheduling the interview, applicants should log in to their account on ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ke to ensure the DS-160 number on their account matches the DS-160 number on the confirmation page.

If the numbers don’t match, applicants may need to return to the application page and complete a new DS-160.

“If the numbers match, attend your interview at the scheduled time,” said the US Embassy’s instructions.

After making a new DS-160 application, applicants should log back into their account, click the gear icon at the far right end, select the edit button, and replace the old DS-160 number with the new, correct one.

“If you don’t confirm or update your DS-160 number by May 18, the US Embassy will cancel your appointment and instruct you to schedule a new one,” warns the Embassy.

    Purpose of DS-160 Form

The US Department of State states that the form is usually submitted electronically online to the Department of State website.

Embassies worldwide use the information provided to process visa applications and conduct interviews to assess whether applicants are qualified.
