‘Be Humble, Respect Your Chief Campaigner!’ “Kenya Kwanza Leaders Blast Raila Over Ruto Criticism”
Leaders of both houses of Parliament have criticized opposition leader Raila Odinga for his comments on the government, urging him to respect President William Ruto, who supports Odinga’s bid to become African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson.
Speaking in Teso North, Busia County, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah disagreed with Mr. Odinga’s critique of Ruto’s government, highlighting the President’s backing for Odinga’s AUC candidacy.
MP Ichung’wah challenged Mr. Odinga’s criticisms of Ruto on political and economic issues, noting that Ruto defeated Odinga in the 2022 elections and has improved the economy.
The Kikuyu MP suggested Odinga should express gratitude to the President by being respectful and humble.
“Raila should recognize Ruto’s economic and political acumen, given his victory in the elections and economic recovery efforts, and support for Odinga’s AUC candidacy,” said Ichung’wah.
“If you want to be helped, be humble because the AUC Chair position requires humility and respect. Respect Ruto, your main supporter.”
Cheruiyot noted that despite Ruto’s efforts to support Odinga’s AUC chair bid, Odinga appears ungrateful and critical of the President.

“We all wish Odinga well in his AUC bid, but his recent media comments were surprising. Instead of being grateful, he’s attacking his main supporter. We are helping him, and he is being unappreciative,” said the Kericho Senator.
“Please, be respectful and acknowledge that we are supporting your bid for the AUC chairmanship.”
The leaders were attending a fundraising event in Busia County for flood victims.
Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Busia Governor Paul Otuoma, and several MPs condemned the ongoing floods and urged residents in affected areas to move to higher ground to avoid further deaths.
“We urge residents, particularly in Budalangi, to take precautions against the floods and move to safer areas,” Kibet said.
These comments come after Mr. Odinga criticized President Ruto’s government for its response to heavy rains, calling for the flood situation to be declared a national disaster.
“They have failed…even if given 10 years, they will fail…the ministers lack the skills to lead the government,” Mr. Odinga said.
