Mathioya MP Gets Muddy, Gets Cleaned: Residents Wash Lawmaker’s Feet

Mathioya residents cleaned the mud off their Member of Parliament, Edwin Mugo, on Wednesday, May 1, during his visit to the landslide victims in the region.

Residents washed Mugo’s feet after he inspected areas vulnerable to floods and landslides.

Online commentators made sarcastic remarks about the residents’ act of reciprocating Mugo’s visit, describing it as a difficult day.

“Wanjiku decided to wash our MP’s feet as a thank you for the support she received. It was a tough day with a somber atmosphere,” one netizen said.

    “Mathioya’s Jesus,” another netizen commented.

    Casualties from the mudslide

On Monday, April 29, four deaths were reported by the Kenya Red Cross, as they searched for two missing individuals and livestock buried in the disaster.

The incident was triggered by heavy rains affecting Kiganjo village in Gitugi ward.

    Mugo’s assistance to landslide victims

Mugo, along with Murang’a senator Joe Nyutu and other local MPs, including the county’s Women Representative Betty Maina, donated food, mattresses, blankets, and other essential supplies.

The victims are being sheltered at Ngutu Primary School. Mugo also reported two additional deaths in the Monday incident.

“My dedication to serving my community has driven me to support those affected by the landslide, currently sheltered at Ngutu Primary School.

The tragic event yesterday resulted in the loss of six community members,” he said.

Nakuru MP criticized for paying student’s fees

In February, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama faced criticism for having a student hold up a placard after paying the student’s school fees.

Kenyans criticized the MP for using the student, who seemed uncomfortable, to promote his political agenda.

Arama further angered Kenyans by posting on social media about his accomplishments and development projects shortly after taking office.
