Garissa Teacher Charged For Allegedly Molesting Six Children

Detectives in Garissa have received authorization to hold a suspected pedophile for 14 days, accused of molesting six children aged 5 to 9 years.

The suspect, Aden Ali, a teacher, was taken into custody by police following reports naming him as the main suspect in a case involving sexual harassment, assault, and defilement of children in his class.

Ali appeared in a Garissa court on Thursday, where detectives requested an additional 14 days to hold him while they take statements from the parents of the alleged child victims.

Garissa sub-county Police Commander Edward Imbwaga stated that the teacher was arrested on Wednesday before he could escape.

After his arrest, more families have come forward to provide statements to the police.

“After arresting Aden Ali on charges of molesting young children, we are seeking several days to further investigate and gather statements from the victims and P3 forms,” said Imbwaga.

The disturbing aspect for detectives is that Ali taught the children he is accused of abusing.

Police are holding him at Garissa Police Station until the investigation is finished.

Human rights advocates in Garissa highlighted the prevalence of defilement cases and urged parents to be vigilant in monitoring their children at school.

“The rate of cases we are currently receiving is too high. Children are being defiled while at school, and some politicians are interfering in these cases, which we will not tolerate,” remarked Garissa County Gender CEC Hawa Abdi Sahal.

Activist Muktar Dahir Osman commented: “We will work together to end this oppression… cases of molestation and sodomy, especially among youth, have increased.”

The Chairperson of the Muslim Lawyers of Kenya criticized the incident, pledging to ensure justice for the affected children.

Human rights activists urge parents to conduct thorough background checks on teachers before placing their children in their care.
