Parliament Erupts: ‘Linturi Must Go’ Chant During Debate
There was a brief uproar in the National Assembly when disagreements arose among Members of Parliament over the proposed impeachment of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
The disturbance started when a group of MPs stood up and began shouting, demanding that the Agriculture CS resign immediately.
The MPs were adamant in their demand, chanting “Linturi must go” in support of the motion to impeach Linturi.
Speaker Moses Wetangula had to pause the session temporarily to restore order among the MPs.
The MPs were seen standing and facing the speaker, loudly chanting for the approval of the motion.

Despite the speaker’s attempts to calm the situation, the MPs held firm in their protest.
The MPs, led by Kathiani representative Robert Mbui, accused the CS of failing to address the issue of fake fertilizers, which they claimed had significantly impacted farmers.
“Kenyan farmers have already been disgruntled Mr Speaker. There are some farmers, who bought the fertilizer and when they took it to their farms, their crops failed,” noted MP Robert Mbui.
“As we vote today, let us vote with our conscious. We have talked about the issue of corruption from time immemorial,” the legislators added.
On Thursday, members of Parliament began debating the impeachment of Linturi after the motion was introduced by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka.
Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah opposed the motion, asking MP Wamboka to let investigative agencies finish their work before proceeding.
