MP Calls for Probe as Teacher’s Body Found Near Assistant Chief’s Office in Vihiga Days After Other Deaths

In Emakakha village, Emuhaya Constituency in Vihiga County, authorities are investigating the discovery of a teacher’s body near the assistant chief’s office.

Two more individuals—a security guard and a businessman—were mysteriously killed by unknown attackers in the same area, resulting in their deaths.

Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba states that cases reported have not been investigated due to the absence of personnel at police posts.

Omboko requested that Inspector General Japheth Koome assign police officers to the local stations to enhance security and assist with investigations.

“I was told to build the police post at Emurembe and I did, but there are no officers. The same goes for the Emuhaya and Ipali police posts,” he decried.

“IG needs to send people, his job includes maintaining security and protecting people, so I’, calling Koome to do his job.”

Johnstone Malenya, the representative of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), requested a prompt investigation into the teacher’s death due to reports of gunshots heard in the vicinity.

“We heard gunshots yesterday and no one has been arrested. Now we have a dead teacher,” Malenya noted.

Representing the local community, Moses Indiri described the insecurity in the area as a result of insufficient police presence in several stations.

“If the police vehicles are far they need to add more. We don’t want to be given a seven-day timeline, we want the vehicles today,” he demanded.

In recent days, the country has seen over 100 deaths, including 45 due to devastating floods that engulfed a whole village in the Mai Mahiu region on Monday morning.

The calamity, now considered a nationwide catastrophe, has been caused by intense rainfall and sudden flooding that devastated villages and towns. Residents in vulnerable regions near bodies of water have been urged to relocate to higher elevations.
