Raila Readies Next Move as Mass Action Deadline Expires Today

Wednesday at midnight, Raila’s ultimatum to President Ruto expires after two weeks.

On Wednesday, as the 14-day ultimatum issued to President William Ruto expires, the leader of the opposition, Raila Odinga, will announce the next steps of the opposition.

Raila confirmed in a speech to the Senate on Tuesday that his call for mass action will begin on Thursday if the government does not meet the opposition’s demands.

The ODM party leader told reporters, “The deadline is at midnight, so you will hear from us on Thursday.”

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had demanded that President Ruto’s administration reduce the cost of living, delay reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and lower taxes.

Raila stated at the time, “If these demands are not met within fourteen days, we will lead Kenyans to massive mass action across the country to reclaim their power and restore sanity.”

Raila and the Opposition plan to set fire to the State House, among other actions.

Azimio supports Raila’s proposed mass action
Despite a difficult start to the year, member parties of the coalition party Azimio One Kenya have agreed to support Raila’s call for widespread action.

Tuesday at the Jubilee Party headquarters, Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed the party’s readiness for mass mobilization.

“I can assure you that we’re on the right track. We will be present when Raila makes the call for us to unite with others during the period that he will.

“As we sit here today, we are dealing with individuals who have formed a company, the William-Riggy G company, which has taken everything and is threatening the media,” he said.

ODM party chairmen from 35 counties confirmed over the weekend that they will mobilize supporters for the mass action protests.
