Rushing to the car, the officers noticed that the prisoner, who had been in the back seat, was gone. They contacted their fellow officers to see if anyone had seen the suspect and to determine if he was still in the area.
Following a search operation, the officers discovered a footprint near the fence outside the DPP’s office, suggesting that this could have been the suspect’s way of escaping.
The driver admitted to his colleagues during questioning that he had nodded off for a short time before noticing the prisoner had escaped. He mentioned that heย didn’t hear anyย noise from the vehicle andย was taken abackย to find the prisoner missing.
“He is believed to have escaped over the fence at Makadara at the ODPP office as a foot mark was seen on the fence on where he stamped before escaping. The driver is said to have been sleeping when the prisoner escaped,” the police report read in part.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Buruburu attended the court to record the proceedings and take charge of the investigation to track down the inmate.
