Tragic End: 2 University Students Drown in Narok During Date

Two university students tragically drowned in Narok County on Wednesday, April 24, after slipping off a bridge.

According to reports, the students had decided to embark on an adventure not far from their school.

However, while attempting to cross a narrow bridge, they slipped and were swept away by the swift currents of the swollen river.

Their university colleagues have stated that the two victims were second-year students enrolled in courses at the institution.

Narok police have, however, confirmed that efforts to retrieve the bodies are still ongoing.

The operations were led by the county commissioner Kapkech Lotiatia, and the county police commander Riko Ngare.

Residents of the area, have warned that the area is a potential hazard and that people should avoid trekking in the region during this rainy season.

“It is so painful, we think we have ended the semester successfully, but unfortunately two second-year comrades, a man, and a lady have lost their souls when they try to cross the bridge full of water but suddenly both of them drowned inside the water, Ewaso Nyiro river not far from the university,” stated one of the colleagues.

Incidentally, students from the university have claimed that this is not the first case of students having drowned in the river.

In October 2022, a student also drowned in the river while in the company of his two friends who had gone for a picnic at the river shores.

The student is said to have attempted swimming in the river after where he was swept away.

After the incident, the Dean of Students from the university confessed that the river had claimed the lives of several varsity students who innocently went for picnics along the river only to drown in what seemed like shallow water.
