Ruto Pushes MPs to Cut Their Budget

President William Ruto suggested that Parliament cut back on its spending related to travel and meeting facilitation expenses.

During the opening of the Bunge Towers on Thursday, the President stated that Members of Parliament no longer need extra funds to hold meetings in hotels or other external locations.

Ruto elaborated that the recently opened Towers were fully equipped with spacious meeting rooms.

โ€œThereโ€™s no more reason for extra resources to travel to hotels and places, now that we have all the facilities here, the meeting rooms, I hope I will see a significant drop Mr Speaker in the budget of Parliament,โ€ he stated.

He also called on House Speaker Moses Wetangula to include the budget cuts in the creation of the forthcoming budget.

He stressed the importance of accurately accounting for the use of the 28 office towers in the House’s expenses and expressed confidence in Parliament’s capacity to manage them effectively.

Additionally, during the inauguration of the Towers, the President spoke about the creation of ICT hubs nationwide. He mentioned leading initiatives to establish these centers in various constituencies despite the obstacles encountered by members of parliament.

The President committed to establishing ICT hubs for the community within three to four months, by working through challenges with the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology.

โ€œThis morning, I did instruct both the Permanent Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for ICT and NG-CDF to have a meeting and conclude the challenges that were there so that the MPs can roll out the ICT hubs in the constituencies,โ€ he stated.

He mentioned that establishing the hubs will play a key role in helping the country increase its foreign remittances twofold within five to seven years.

Ruto explained that the government was establishing a system to implement the bilateral labor agreements it was forming with other countries.

The framework is anticipated to enhance opportunities for Kenyan youth to secure employment abroad.
