Green Card Lottery Results Out on May 4: Here’s How to Check Your Status

The outcomes of the DV-2025 Diversity Visa, often referred to as the Green Card Lottery, can be accessed online starting on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

People who applied for the DV-2024 Lottery between October 4, 2023, and November 7, 2023, can find out if they were successful starting May 4, 2024.

The Diversity Visa Program, commonly referred to as the Green Card Lottery, is overseen by the US Department of State and provides up to 55,000 Green Cards each year through a lottery system to individuals from countries with traditionally low immigration rates to the US.

To register for the lottery, you must complete and submit Form DS-5501 online on the DV program website. Registration is free of charge.

Kenya has one of the highest numbers of winners in the world.

An applicant must meet the qualifications for an immigrant visa by either possessing a high school diploma or its equivalent or by having two years of work experience in a job that requires two years of training or experience within the past five years.

The Green Card, or Permanent Resident Card, is a document that verifies a foreigner’s permanent resident status in the United States.

This document confirms that the bearer is a legal permanent resident and has been formally granted immigration privileges, allowing them to reside and work in the United States.

The document shows that the person is a lawful permanent resident of the US.

A cardholder enjoys all the protections and rights of US law, has the right to live and work in the US without being a US citizen, and pays US taxes.

The State Department reminds entrants that there is no charge to enter the lottery. The Department does not charge a fee, and any website, individual, or company that claims the Department charges a fee is attempting to defraud entrants.

To check if they have won, participants need their confirmation number, surname/family name, and year of birth.

Last year, hundreds of Kenyans who won a chance to migrate to the US after being selected in the Diversity Visa 2023 lottery were locked out after the US Embassy in Nairobi said all remaining Diversity Visa appointments would be canceled from September 7, 2023, regardless of the stage of the process they were in.

“Dear Diversity Visa Applicant: Your visa was issued on August 22, 2023, and will be sent to your DHL registered branch. However, your derivatives will be faced with the sudden closure of the DV 2023 season on 7 September 2023,” the letter read in part.

According to the US Embassy, individuals who won the Diversity Visa 2023 lottery and have not yet been interviewed have been advised not to schedule a medical examination at the IOM in Nairobi because the interviews have been canceled.
