Michael Oyier, Ex-KTN News Anchor, Dies During Treatment

Former Kenya Television Network (KTN) news anchor Michael Oyier on Friday succumbed to illness while receiving treatment at the Nairobi hospital.

However, there was no clear detail of the exact illness the deceased was suffering from before his sudden demise.

In 2002, Oyier joined Standard Group Media as a news anchor at KTN where he worked for nine years until 2012 when he quit.

While at Standard Group, he also joined the editorial departmentย whereย he wrote several pieces while similarly working as a new anchor.

With over 20 years of experience as a journalist, Oyier was a skilled public speaker, moderator, master of ceremony, facilitator, voice-over artist, singer, and actor.

Oyier was also a leadership coach with experience spanning half a decadeย helpingย leaders and leadership teams, bothย locally and internationally.

Fellow journalists who mourned him termed him as a gentle soul. Before his death, Oyier worked as a psychologist and life coach.

Oyier holds a Masterโ€™s degree in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Psychology and Management.

He also holds a certificate in Manager Programme from the Strathmore Business School and a certificate in Executive Leadership coaching from the Coach Development Institute Africa.

The former journalist worked closely with medical institutions such as Mathare Mental Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital, and private organizations as he advanced to help individuals, couples, families, groups, and teams in organizations overcome various challenges.

“This is devastating. I have been undertaking some consultancy work with Michael for the last three months. It’s unbelievable that this soft-spoken man is no more. Rest easy,” Nation Media journalist James Smart mourned the deceased.

Michael will be rememberedย for mobilizing institutions to introduce counseling as an essential service for employee productivity and community health.
