Detectives Shoot Dead Gangster in Kasarani Gunfight, Recover Firearm Stolen From Vihiga OCS
On Tuesday, April 9, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) fatally shot a suspected gang member believed to have stolen a firearm from an Officer Commanding the Vihiga Police Station.
Allegedly, the DCI officers trapped the suspect in his hideout situated in the Mwiki region of Kasarani, where he was living with two of his partners in crime.
After the unexpected raid conducted by the detectives, a shootout broke out between the gang members and the detectives belonging to the operations unit.
As the dispute escalated, two members of the gang escaped, leaving one individual remaining. Nevertheless, this lone suspect was fatally shot by the officers when he tried to provoke a confrontation.
Detectives reported that in December of the previous year, a gang assaulted and forcefully stole the firearm of the Officer in Charge of Vihiga Police Station.
The policeman was assaulted as he parked his vehicle in Majengo market in Vihiga, where a group of attackers armed with daggers descended upon him, resulting in severe injuries that proved fatal.

“They then disappeared with his Jericho pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition,” the detective noted.
After the robbery, detectives promptly initiated an investigation, and after days of surveillance, they received an intelligence report via their hotline.
An anonymous caller alerted authorities to a suspicious vehicle with three armed individuals at the Kenyatta University farm in Mwiki.
“Stealthily approaching the scene, the hawkshaws realized it was the same suspects who had evaded several police dragnets after staging some attacks around the Capital,” read part of the DCI report.
The police officers from the District of Columbia proceeded to carry out a raid on the gang’s hideout, where they apprehended the suspects and encouraged them to surrender. However, rather than complying, the suspects launched a retaliatory attack on the officers, prompting an immediate reaction.
Following the shooting of the suspect, law enforcement relocated his remains to the City Mortuary for identification purposes.
