Kenyans Troll Kimani Ichung’wah Over ‘Unstable’ Economy Remarks
Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah faced backlash from Kenyans from Sunday into Monday for his comments reiterating that the stability of the Kenyan economy was in question.
Ichung’wah, while urging doctors to return to work, argued that due to the unstable economy, the government lacked the capacity to meet their demands.
The Member of Parliament addressing a crowd in Nyeri on Sunday urged doctors to endure the present circumstances until the economy improves. He emphasized that the ongoing strike was severely disrupting service provision in public hospitals.
“I take this opportunity to plead with all our medical professionals to call off the strike and give dialogue an opportunity. Give the government a chance for the economy to grow from its current state,” he stated.
Nevertheless, Kenyan citizens promptly criticized the Member of Parliament for his contentious statement, especially considering his previous praise for President William Ruto and Deputy Rigathi Gachagua for their efforts in stabilizing the economy.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai also alleged that the Majority Leader at the National Assembly was engaging in contradictory speech.
“Economy wasn’t performing great? I thought they were bragging how great they were performing,” Alai added.
Expanding on Alai’s comments, a portion of the Kenyan populace alleged that politicians affiliated with Kenya Kwanza were being deceitful about the state of the economy whenever it suited the government’s agenda.

They contended that the Member of Parliament was merely using concerns about the economy as a pretext to justify the government’s refusal to grant their requested salary increases.
Additionally, Kenyans rejected Ichung’wah’s assertion about the economy being unstable, emphasizing instead that they were bearing a heavier tax burden compared to previous times.
Many highlighted that the income could be allocated towards essential functions like compensating medical professionals, rather than reinstating the positions of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS).
“The economy is unstable now but when it comes to political rallies it is stable,” one Kenyan remarked referring to Ichung’wah’s remarks in the past where he constantly attacked the previous regime.
Kenyan citizens are calling on the government to cease making excuses and instead fulfill its obligation to compensate both doctors and teachers, recognizing their crucial contributions to society.
Additionally, President Ruto was urged to eradicate corrupt officials who are seizing land parcels and misappropriating funds allocated for development, thereby plunging Kenyans into a state of crisis.
Additionally, some Kenyans pointed out the inconsistency of reducing doctors’ salaries while politicians continue to receive substantial monthly earnings, including sizable allowances.
