Four dead, Scores Injured after Kensilver Bus Overturns at the Nithi Bridge Black Spot

Barely 24 hours after a grisly accident along the Nakuru- Eldoret Highway was reported to have claimed the lives of several Kenyans on Saturday, several other Kenyans were feared dead following a road accident that occurred at Nithi Bridge in Meru County on Sunday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, a bus ferrying passengers is reported to have experienced a brake failure leading to it veering off the road and overturning.

Reportedly, seven people are stated to have lost their lives in the accident, however, the police are yet to confirm the number.

Witnesses reported that the bus was heading from Maua to Nairobi when the incident occurred.

Several injuries have been reported with eyewitnesses reporting that the victims sustained serious injuries.

The victims have since been rushed to hospital and rescue efforts were ongoing by the time of publishing this article.

However, area residents thanked the Tharaka Nithi response teams for the quick intervention that saw them quickly rush to the scene and begin rescue operations.

The Nithi bridge which is located in Meru County has been labeled a blackspot over the number of accidents that have occurred in the section.

Residents and drivers who ply the route have since called for a reengineering of the area to avoid any future fatalities.

Further, Meru residents are requesting a probe into the recent spike in road accidents.

Incidentally, the accident comes less than 24 hours after another accident involving six trucks in Timboroa along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

It is reported that the accident claimed five lives, a number that is also yet to be confirmed by law enforcement authorities.ย
