Meru Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali Seriously Injured, Daughters Succumb In Collision On Embu-Meru Highway
Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali has been airlifted to Nairobi after sustaining injuries in a grisly road accident at Gatunduri in Embu County.
The deputy speaker lost his daughter in the accident. The scene of the accident is along the Embu-Meru highway.
While confirming the incident Embu West Traffic base commander Solomon Wamae said a 6-year-old child sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Tenri Hospital where she succumbed while receiving treatment.
Another child was airlifted together with his dad to Karen Hospital in Nairobi both with serious injuries.
“Two motor vehicles a Subaru and Toyota Hilux were involved in a head-on collision accident at Gatunduri area along Embu-Meru highway. The Subaru had four people on board, two children and an adult and his driver, both of whom suffered injuries while the Toyota Hilux had a single person who suffered minor injuries,” he said.
The deputy speaker’s driver sustained a head injury and dislocated his left knee. He was also airlifted to Karen Hospital Nairobi.

The accident left the deputy speaker’s Subaru car in wreckage after bursting into flames from the head-on collision accident impact with a Toyota Hilux.
The vehicle was consumed by flames beyond recognition while the double cabin pick-up veered off to the roadside thicket with its front partially destroyed.
Residents who responded to the incident have labeled the place a black spot and urged motorists to observe caution whenever approaching the area.
“The cars collided head-on hence one bursting into flames that we have assisted in putting down the fire,” he said John Njiru well-wisher.
He urged the government to empower the authority concerned with the roads’ well-being to erect bumps to curb the accidents along the route.
“I would urge the government to consider erecting pumps along the Gatunduri section to avoid witnessing such accidents,” he said.
Police in Embu County are yet to state the matter.
