Uhuru Ally Questions Credibility of Gachagua’s Apology to Kenyatta Family, Demands Fresh Apology

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, March 26, following Gachagua’s recent apology to Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the mother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In an interview on K24, Kioni rejected the validity of Gachagua’s apology, arguing that it did not reach the intended recipients.

The Secretary-General of the Jubilee organization also expressed skepticism regarding the genuineness of the apology, hinting that it might have been offered merely to protect one’s interests.

Kioni additionally commented that the negative comments uttered by the deputy president and fellow Kenya Kwanza politicians during the campaign period had adverse effects not just on the Kenyatta family but also on the broader society.

Therefore, the leader of Jubilee’s faction insisted on a public retraction and a larger audience for the apology. Additionally, Kioni encouraged other politicians from the Kenya Kwanza party who had made harsh comments about the Kenyatta family to also apologize.

“The critical question is whether this apology is cosmetic or genuine. It is important that we acknowledge the insults that happened in 2017, these insults affected more than just the first lady, the former president,” Kioni noted.

“The insults affected the community at large and even people who value lead were also hurt by insults that characterized the campaigns that were done by Kenya Kwanza at large,” he added.

Two days after Gachagua offered an apology to Mama Ngina Kenyatta for the rift in 2022, Kioni made a request to the deputy president.

During a roundtable interview with journalists from the Mt Kenya region, Gachagua explained that the insults he directed towards the former first lady were prompted by the heightened political tensions leading up to the election.

“2022 politics had become so dirty. It had reached a point, where we had lacked respect, hurling insults to Mama Ngina,” the DP stated.

“I wouldn’t again, like the Mt Kenya community, for us to get to that point again of lacking respect for our elders. I would like to ask for forgiveness from Mama Ngina,” he added.

However, despite the apology, the deputy president was reluctant to state whether he would meet the former president to formally bury the hatchet.
