Gachagua Begs Mama Ngina for Forgiveness

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed regret to Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the mother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, for the disagreements that occurred in 2022.

During a roundtable discussion with journalists from the Mt Kenya region on Monday morning, the Deputy President clarified that the politicians were caught up in the political events that engulfed the entire nation during that period.

He additionally observed that due to the political atmosphere, certain politicians had diminished their regard for the former First Lady.

“2022 politics had become so dirty. It had reached a point, where we had lacked respect, hurling insults to Mama Ngina,” the DP told the press.

“I wouldn’t again, like the Mt Kenya community, for us to get to that point again of lacking respect for our elders. I would like to ask for forgiveness from Mama Ngina.”

When questioned about the possibility of initiating a reconciliation meeting with former President Uhuru Kenyatta to shape the political trajectory of the Mt Kenya region, Gachagua replied, “Such matters tend to resolve themselves.”

In March 2022, a tempest stirred within the nation, preceding the August General election, as several leaders directed insults towards the ex-first lady.

During that period, Kenya Kwanza leaders urged Mama Ngina to refrain from involvement in politics following her counsel to her son’s followers to align with his political guidance.

“He (Uhuru) didnโ€™t have a problem (with DP Ruto), but if your deputy shows you disrespect, would you stick there? You will move on,” the former First Lady advised at the time.

At that moment, Uhuru had opted to back former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the highest position, sidelining his former deputy, William Ruto.

โ€œI wish she would keep off politics. If she decides to play politics when the field becomes crowded, stay in the firing line,โ€ Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei fired off.

Female leaders subsequently insisted on receiving an apology from the Kenya Kwanza leaders, contending that their comments were disrespectful towards the incumbent Head of State.

    BBI Direction

In his interview, Gachagua additionally disclosed that the partnership between Uhuru and Raila, known as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), collapsed as a result of hubris.

“BBI failed because its proponents were arrogant, beating their chests and telling us it will be forced down our throats like medicine. If they approached the entire situation with respect, we would have considered passing it,” he stated.
