Murang’a Senator Nyutu Narrates How Love for Girls Derailed His Priesthood Passion
The senator from Murangโa reflected on how his fascination with attractive women diverted him from his childhood aspiration of becoming a Catholic priest.
โI had just been circumcisedโฆ you knowโฆ and I had started visiting the nearby Muthithi market (in Kigumo constituency)โฆ I looked at the beautiful girls walking around and I silently abandoned the passion of priesthood,โ he said while addressing his brethren at Muthithi Catholic Church.
At the Holy Mass, where Vice President Rigathi Gachagua was the chief guest, the congregation was left in stitches when Mr. Nyutu, in his comic element, declared that โthe soul insisted on the priesthood but the body flatly refusedโ.
He apologized to the priests present, saying: โI have betrayed the cause since I discovered women and marriage as a good thingโฆ it was all my fault as I was led by a strong body charge which found a weak faith in meโ.
Mr. Nyutu stated that despite his weaknesses, he maintained unwavering faith in the Catholic Church and never doubted his trust in priests.
โThat is why I have never abandoned the Catholic faith and priests remain among my good friends. I love the Church of God and all faithsโฆ My only problem was that I could not resist the lure of beautiful girls,โ he said.
Mr. Nyutu, aged 59, is a parent to three children: a daughter currently practicing law, a son employed as an engineer, and another child still attending high school.
He originates from Ichagaki Ward in Murangโa County and commenced his political career with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
