JKIA Announces Closure of its Terminal; Here is Why
On Monday, March 25, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) declared the closure of a segment of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
KAA stated that the temporary shutdown of JKIA Terminal 1E was caused by a fire incident occurring in that area.
In a public announcement, KAA disclosed that the fire stemmed from an electrical malfunction at the bustling airport.
The firefighters based at the airport promptly managed the situation, ensuring there were no injuries or casualties as a consequence of the incident.
“Following this, power to Terminal 1E has been temporarily shut off as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all within our premises,” travelers and other stakeholders were assured.
“To mitigate any inconvenience this may cause, all flight arrival operations have been redirected to Terminal 1A until further notice.”

Recognizing the airport’s status as the largest in East Africa, KAA stated its commitment to implementing measures aimed at safeguarding the well-being and security of passengers, employees, and stakeholders.
This goal will be accomplished by implementing measures to reduce disturbances resulting from the temporary shutdown.
Although there’s no specific timeframe for when the terminal will reopen, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) declared its commitment to working tirelessly to restore normal operations as quickly as they can.
There were no immediate accounts of passengers being left stranded as a result of the inconvenience.
The terminal shutdown occurred as heavy rains inundated the Nairobi area and its surrounding metropolitan region throughout Sunday night.
