    David Ndii Reveals He Can’t Advise Gachagua

    David Ndii Reveals He Can’t Advise Gachagua

    David Ndii, the Chief Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, stated on Sunday that he will refrain from offering guidance to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua regarding strategies to combat illicit alcohol, particularly in the Mt Kenya region.

    Ndii was addressing the recent intensified enforcement actions mainly focused on counties in the Mt Kenya region, led by the Deputy President’s office in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior.

    The economist commented that the approach to the problem was misguided and probably would have negative repercussions.

    Moreover, he contended that the proliferation of illegal alcoholic beverages could be linked to the prohibition of traditional liquors by the late President Daniel Moi in 1979.

    โ€œThe problem is economic but its roots are demographic, geography, and politics,โ€ he explained.ย

    Responding to the post, a Kenyan asked, โ€œWhy donโ€™t you advise the Deputy President to do the right thing?โ€

    The Chief Economist then employed a phrase indicating his lack of willingness to explain to the Deputy President due to impatience.

    He additionally stated that being subordinate to the DP did not imply he needed to offer advice.

    This occurred one day following the Deputy President’s reaffirmation that the government would persist until illegal alcohol was eliminated.

    In support of his feelings, Ndii referenced a previous article he had written, highlighting that the problem of illicit brew consumption in the Mt. Kenya region had worsened due to migration.

    He described how in 1994, more than 30,000 youthful Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were relocated to Kiambu and various other areas within the Mt Kenya regions.

    He elaborated that as a result, the youth in Kenya, lacking homes and job opportunities, turned to inexpensive alcohol.
