Edwin Sifuna Meets Rigathi Gachagua for First Time, Rules Out Their Friendship: “We’re Not Friends”

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua found themselves sharing a platform for the first time on March 21st, as they both attended the funeral of Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru’s father in Mukurweini, Nyeri County.

During his opportunity to address the mourners, Sifuna reiterated his unwavering commitment to holding the government accountable for any wrongdoing. Directing his words towards Gachagua, who listened intently, Sifuna made it clear that he would not conform to the Deputy President’s expectations, emphasizing his continued focus on governmental oversight.

In a candid moment, Sifuna conveyed to Gachagua that while they may not be acquainted and this encounter marked their first meeting, there was no animosity between them. He clarified that any disparities in their viewpoints were not driven by personal vendettas but rather stemmed from differing stances on various issues.

“Mr Deputy President, I will not want to lie that I am your friend. We are not friends and today is the first time we are meeting. I want to tell you that there is no blood between you and me. We only differ on issues and that is coming to an end,” said Sifuna.

Despite their contrasting positions, Sifuna extended an olive branch, indicating his willingness to foster a constructive dialogue moving forward. He emphasized the importance of civil discourse and mutual respect in addressing their disparities, hinting at a potential resolution to their ideological differences.

By articulating his stance with candor and extending a gesture of reconciliation, Sifuna demonstrated a commitment to constructive engagement, setting a precedent for potential collaboration despite ideological disparities.
