Ruto CS Breaks Silence Amid Quitting Rumors

On Wednesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha rejected rumors indicating her intention to resign amidst the ongoing doctors’ strike.

During an interview on KTN News, Nakhumicha asserted that she had no intention of resigning, expressing her readiness to carry out the tasks and responsibilities assigned to her by President William Ruto.

Nakhumicha firmly asserted that the nation should finally become acquainted with her true identity, pledging to swiftly address the deadlock with medical professionals.

“Leadership capacity and capability are tested during a crisis. So these are the times when people will know who Nakhumicha is,” noted the CS.

“I think they have just been seeing me. We are going to resolve this issue permanently,” Nakhumicha promised.

As per the CS, the strike by doctors stemmed from the issues outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) finalized in 2017, which has now expired.

Nakhumicha explained that the full implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which permitted intern doctors to receive Ksh206,000, was hindered due to the rise in the number of recent graduates who have been assigned as interns.

The CS also mentioned that interns were not considered staff members, and consequently, they weren’t eligible for payment.

Nevertheless, the Chief Negotiator acknowledged the possibility of engaging in new discussions and finalizing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) after the expiration of the previous one.

Nakhumicha affirmed the Ministry’s dedication to tackling the issues brought up by the doctors. Additionally, any concerns beyond the Ministry’s capacity would be addressed by alternative parties.

“We need to open the conversation that would lead to the implementation of any deal signed between the Government and the medical practitioners,” Nakhumicha stated.

“We have engineered negotiations which have borne progress so far and we are not relenting in that cause,” she added.
