Ichung’wah Fires Up Kiambu Political Turmoil with Renewed Wamatangi Attack

In an ongoing narrative of political tension within Kiambu County, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah has alleged that Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is actively undermining the administration of President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In his latest tirade on Tuesday, March 19, Ichung’wah lashed out at Governor Wamatangi, asserting, “My fight with the Kiambu Governor is just one. And he (Governor Kimani Wamatangi) knows what it is about.โ€

He added, โ€œThe fight is over the sabotage of President William Ruto and the government of UDA. When we were campaigning, we promised to build markets. When Ruto builds markets, you tell people that you are the one building the market. You claim Ruto has done nothing for the people of Kiambu. Shame on you.”

This conflict isn’t recent; friction between Wamatangi and Ichungโ€™wah traces back to January when conflicts over the county’s administration peaked.

The situation deteriorated when several County Assembly Members (MCAs) aligned themselves with Ichungโ€™wah, encouraging his involvement in the administration of the local government.

Wamatangi has faced allegations of ineffective leadership and neglecting the requirements of the people of Kiambu.

Ichungโ€™wah consistently accuses Wamatangi of impeding progress on development initiatives, asserting that this obstruction has led to the loss of significant funding from both the national government and global institutions such as the World Bank.

Nevertheless, the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), under the leadership of Godfrey Mucheke, the Majority Leader of the Kiambu County Assembly, have expressed their support for Governor Wamatangi.

They allege that Ichungโ€™wah is attempting to disrupt Wamatangi’s leadership to advance his political aspirations.

Mucheke asserted, “We know he has planned to see Wamatangi ousted for him to successfully achieve his selfish political interests.”

In light of these accusations, Wamatangi pledged to persist in protecting public assets and advancing developmental projects.

He affirmed, “Fight me, insult me, and do all manner of things but I won’t release the key to the store of what belongs to Kiambu residents. I have nothing to worry about; I belong to God.”

The divide has deepened even more due to the participation of Senator Karungo wa Thangโ€™wa, who the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) claim is showing disrespect and trying to disrupt the operations of the county government.

Karungo, who has previously shared a similar stance with Ichungโ€™wah regarding Kiambu politics, has expressed disapproval of Wamatangi’s leadership, particularly highlighting concerns over inadequate revenue collection and other matters.

Amidst these disputes, the residents of Kiambu find themselves caught in a political spectacle that jeopardizes progress initiatives and undermines effective governance.

Amidst swirling accusations and rising tensions, the outcome of this conflict remains unclear.
