Kenya’s Ex-BBC Journalist Patience Nyange Appointed Spokesperson at IGAD Office

On Tuesday, March 19th, Patience Nyange, a media figure, was named the latest spokesperson for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

As per the IGAD secretariat, Nyange will be working within the office of IGAD’s Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu.

โ€œWith her many years of experience, expertise, and passion for effective communication, we are poised to elevate our voice and mission not only in the region but globally,โ€ read part of a statement by IGAD.

โ€œWelcome aboard, we wish you all the best in your journey with us.”

IGAD is a trade alliance comprising eight nations across Africa, encompassing governments from the Horn of Africa, the Nile Valley, and the African Great Lakes region. Its central administration is based in Djibouti.

Before joining IGAD, Nyange held the position of Executive Director at the Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK).

In 2009, Nyange secured a position as a journalist with Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), where she worked as a presenter for Radio Taifa until she departed for Norway through support from the Association of Media Women in Kenya.

In 2012, she reached another notable achievement by joining the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), particularly its philanthropic division, and advocating for media engagement.

Two years later, she made the move from conventional media to Public Relations.

She subsequently attained a significant milestone by serving as a communication consultant to the Cabinet Secretary within the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, a position formerly held by Anne Waiguru, who is now the governor of Kirinyaga.

She worked for two years at the Ministry of Devolution before assuming a new position as an assistant director at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).

Nyange obtained a Master’s Degree in International Public Relations and Global Communication Management from Cardiff University located in Wales.

“To everyone attempting at the Chevening Scholarship 2023/24, I am here to ask you to press on. Don’t give up. Give it your best,” Patience Nyange remarked through her Twitter account after bagging her Master’s Degree.
