Land Official Felix Nyakundi Under Probe Over 17 High-End Vehicles, 106 Prime Properties

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured orders from the High Court to freeze multi-billion wealth entailing 17 high-end vehicles and 106 prime properties belonging to Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi.

Lady Justice Esther Maina on Tuesday granted the commission powers to also retain an additional sum of unexplained Ksh.4.2 million which was seized after a search was conducted at the suspect’s premises.

EACC believes that the wealth was accrued through corruption and abuse of office, and should be forfeited to the government.

“Nyakundi cannot practically have amassed such wealth through lawful and legitimate means and in the absence of any satisfactory explanation, his accumulated wealth can only be proceeds of corruption hence liable to forfeiture to the Government of Kenya,” argued EACC in court submissions.

The properties being targeted include 16 properties in Nairobi, 2 in Utawala, 6 in Ngong, 13 in Kilifi, 11 in Kitutu Central constituency, 6 in Kitutu West, 7 in Mavueni, and another in Kisumu, Kitale among others.

EACC added that preliminary investigations revealed that the properties were at risk of being transferred or sold to jeopardize their recovery.

The properties will be frozen for 6 months as the commission finalizes its investigations into allegations of embezzling public funds, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth.
