Kenyan Lawyer Joyce Munene Lands Role at International Bar Association (IBA)

Joyce Munene, the former Assistant Director at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in Kenya, has secured a position at the International Bar Association (IBA).

Joyce Munene is anticipated to assume the role of a liaison attorney at the International Criminal Court, serving as a representative for the African region.

The IBA, founded in 1947, is widely regarded as the leading organization for global legal professionals, bar associations, and law societies.

The organization states that it has members from 170 countries, consisting of over 80,000 individual international lawyers representing a majority of the world’s top law firms. Additionally, it includes participation from approximately 190 bar associations and law societies.

Joyce expressed her excitement about her recent appointment and eagerly anticipated fulfilling her responsibilities within the organization, especially during a period when Kenya was strengthening its geopolitical standing.

“I look forward to contributing to the regional quest for good governance, justice, and rule of law in line with objectives of the International Bar Association.”

Joyce is mandated to act as a representative for African nations in committees and conferences on a global scale within her designated jurisdiction.

Before the appointment, Joyce served as the Assistant Director at EACC.

She possesses a Master’s degree in International Criminal Justice law and has received training in forensic investigation from both the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Joyce, a High Court advocate, takes pride in her illustrious legal career, which includes experiences at the Parliamentary Service Commission and in the private sector before she transitions to the EACC.

Munene has received widespread recognition and numerous awards for her accomplishments in the field of law.

In 2022, she was awarded with a Head of State’s Commendation (HSC).
