Mudavadi’s ANC Party Roars Against UDA’s Sidelining Tactics
Leaders from Mt. Kenya who support the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party allege that they are being progressively marginalized by the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
During the press conference on Sunday, the leaders mentioned that despite contributing over 300,000 votes to strengthen the coalition, they had not yet received a portion of the 30 percent of funds allocated to the party.
They asserted that they had consistently put in efforts to enhance the reputation of their coalition in Mt Kenya throughout the campaigning period, which ultimately resulted in their victory in August 2022.
Margaret Tongai, Deputy Party Leader of ANC, emphatically asserted that the coalition had excluded the party linked to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
“We need these people. We need to lay structures because we voted for Kenya Kwanza so much but I can categorically say that we are left out by the Kenya Kwanza Government,” Tongai told the press.
“When they were giving out the 30 percent to ANC, the Mt Kenya region was not captured and I say that honestly.”
Consequently, the vice-chair of the party urged President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to acknowledge their contributions.
“Our President and those concerned including the Deputy President, we need ANC to be seen as people on the ground,” she added.

Daniel Waithumbi, the head of the Murang’a County branch of ANC, affirmed the assertion, pointing out that the governing coalition had not yet delivered on its commitments.
“We are part of Kenya Kwanza and did a lot of work during the elections. However, we have seen that Kenya Kwanza has not fulfilled the promises it made to us as ANC,” Waithumbi stated.
Internal conflicts within the ruling party started when the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) initially proposed the concept of merging all affiliated parties into the governing party led by President William Ruto.
At first, Cleophas Malala left the ANC and became a member of UDA, where he currently holds the position of Secretary General.
Subsequently, the dominant political party suggested the possibility of urging other parties to unite, causing the ANC to react strongly and leading to an emergency meeting in response to the unfolding crisis.
“I want to make it clear that the Amani party is not going to fold. we are an independent party that is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition. That discussion is not important now,” ANC party leader Issa Timamy declared in March last year.
“There was an agreement that was signed between the various constituent parties and Amani party is a major stakeholder,” Timamy reiterated.
