Alarm as Farmers Unearth Live Bomb During Shamba Plowing
In the Wangwachi region of Sipili, Laikipia County, concerns have been raised by residents following the discovery of an active bomb on a local farm.
As per the accounts of locals, farmers who were plowing the fields on March 9 discovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The farmers informed the police about the issue, and the authorities, in turn, secured the explosive. Subsequent investigation revealed that it was a live 60-millimeter bomb.
The Sipili Station police acknowledged receiving information regarding the incident, prompting them to enlist the assistance of bomb disposal experts who successfully neutralized the explosive device.
Before the occurrence, widespread rumors were suggesting the presence of an improvised explosive device (IED) discarded on the farm. Some individuals asserted that the bomb might have been deposited on the farm during the training activities of security agencies in the vicinity.

Nevertheless, it remains to be determined whether this is how the improvised explosive device ended up on the farm, as investigations are still in progress.
There were no fatalities or injuries reported in the Saturday incident.
Law enforcement officials have expressed appreciation for the residents who reported the incident, emphasizing that the mishandling of the explosive could have had deadly consequences if it had fallen into the wrong hands.
This event occurred one day following an incident in Garrissa where nine police officers emerged unharmed despite their vehicle being destabilized by an exploding improvised explosive device (IED).
The police officers were on patrol in Welmerer when the IED exploded leaving the nine nursing injuries in the head, neck, chest, right limbs, and back.
Nevertheless, according to accounts, the officers received medical care at nearby health facilities and were subsequently released.
Law enforcement officers confirmed that they have dispatched a Quick Response Force (RSF) to the area.
