Aircraft in Midair Fatal Collision Was Involved in Two Prior Accidents – Investigation
According to a Ministry of Roads and Transport report, the aircraft involved in the mid-air collision on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities, had experienced two previous accidents before the tragic incident.
The investigation uncovered indications of potential issues with the plane’s functionality that were overlooked before the crash on Tuesday.
Based on recent information, a sequence of events has occurred involving a particular aircraft and the identical pilot training institution situated at Wilson Airport.
The aircraft, produced in the year 1976, belongs to a group of planes utilized for pilot training at the institution. It had been previously examined by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department under the Ministry of Transport.
The report also stated that in January 2021, the identical aircraft experienced an incident during training when it was unable to make a safe landing at Wilson Airport.
The student aviator, with 88 training hours under their belt during the incident, was undertaking a solo flight following the successful completion of the initial trial out of three.

Nevertheless, in the third attempt, the aircraft experienced two bounces upon landing and subsequently collided with the landing strip, resulting in significant harm to the frontal section and the plane’s nose wheel.
In October 2020, the identical aircraft underwent an investigation following reports of unusual sounds during its departure for a flight destined to transport the crew to Turkana and return them to Wilson Airport.
As per the report, the student intern subsequently tried to bring the plane back to the airport, but regrettably, the aircraft veered off the runway and ended up landing in the adjacent grassy area.
After the occurrence of two incidents, the investigative department suggested that the school reassess its safety management systems and enhance training programs to better prepare students for responding to emergencies.
The Ninety-Nines Flying School released a statement verifying that the plane involved in the incident was their property. They also clarified that the occupants were a student and an instructor.
“The aircraft had two crew on board; an instructor and a student. Investigations to determine the cause of the accident are being carried out by the relevant authorities. We condole with the families, friends, and relatives of the deceased,” read the statement in part.
