Man Dies By Suspected Suicide Inside Police Cell, Said To Have Used His Socks

A man suspected of killing his wife reportedly died by suspected suicide while in custody at the Ramasha police station in Masaba South, Kisii county.

Masaba South sub-county police commander Samwel Gitau has confirmed.

The suspect, Misati Obong’o, was being held in custody in connection to the murder of his 67-year-old wife Carren Nyanduko, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday.

His wifeโ€™s body was reportedly discovered by their granddaughter lying in a pool of blood inside their house at 9 am. Police said that the body had deep cuts.

Reports indicate that the husband was not at home, and could not be traced, raising suspicion among the residents.

Angry residents combed the villages in search of the suspect โ€“ and when they found him โ€“ threatened to lynch him.

He was, however, saved from the hands of the mob by the police officers.

The suspect was eventually arrested and detained at the police station later that evening.

Police said they found his lifeless body dangling from the roof โ€“ with reports indicating that he had died by suicide with the aid of his socks.

Police are investigating the incident. The body was taken to the morgue.
