Outgoing LSK Boss Eric Theuri Loses Bid for Key Judiciary Role
Eric Theuri, the outgoing president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), has been unsuccessful in his attempt to secure the Male Representative position on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Theuri was defeated in a closely contested competition against Omwanza Ombati, a lawyer based in Nairobi, who secured the victory with a margin of 65 votes.
On Thursday, February 29, Ombati and Theuri secured 3,357 and 3,292 votes, respectively, in the elections.
Competing for the position of male representative were Ishmael Nyaribo and Professor Mwabile, garnering 95 and 629 votes respectively.
“Omwanza Ombati wins the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) male representative to the JSC. He defeated outgoing LSK President Eric Theuri by 65 votes,” stated Senior Counsel Ahmednasir.
Eric Theuri, who held the position of the 50th LSK president from 2022 to 2024, aimed to secure the role of the Fourth LSK Male Representative to the Judicial Service Commission, outlining a three-point agenda.

Included in his plans were providing efficient and responsive representation, ensuring the independence of the judiciary, promoting accountability, and leading efforts to transform the judicial system.
The role of the JSC representative is vital in the discipline and selection of Judges and Magistrates.
Yesterday, the presidential elections occurred, and Faith Mony Odhiambo secured 3,040 votes. Peter Wanyama took the second spot, while Carolyne Kamende came in third with 2,122 and 910 votes, respectively.
Since 2022, Odhiambo has held the position of Vice President at LSK and concurrently works as a partner at the law firm Ombok & Owuor Advocates LLP.
The competition featured five candidates vying to succeed the current president, Theuri, whose term concluded on March 25.
“Congratulations Madam President, Faith Odhiambo. Serve us with distinction. Just remember that in this office, one’s popularity starts waning on the day of the oath. Always do the right thing. If in doubt, say NO,” former LSK President Nelson Havi stated in a congratory post.
