    EACC Goes After MP for Awarding Ksh 51M Tender to Daughters

    EACC Goes After MP for Awarding Ksh 51M Tender to Daughters

    One of the current Members of Parliament, along with his two daughters, are identified as significant suspects suggested for prosecution in the most recent quarterly report from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

    EACC additionally stated that the Member of Parliament utilized his position to grant contracts to his children and trusted acquaintances. These contracts purportedly involved projects such as building classrooms, organizing events, and undertaking road construction within the constituency.

    EACC found it noteworthy that the constituency in question granted multiple contracts to four companies linked to the MP’s daughter.

    It was further confirmed that numerous payments were issued to the firms for initiatives carried out within the electoral district.

    The Member of Parliament in question allegedly received a sum of Ksh10.5 million, either through direct transactions or indirectly via companies linked to his daughter and other close associates.

    Further inquiries uncovered that the Member of Parliament was one of the authorized signatories for a bank account associated with one of the company’s branches.

    After completing the investigations on October 12, 2023, a report was prepared and sent to the DPP, suggesting charges against the MP, the fund account manager, and the directors of the four companies.

    The EACC suggested apprehension on two charges related to conflicts of interest, in violation of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.

    The investigative committee additionally suggested that the Member of Parliament face charges for five instances of illicit procurement of public assets, in violation of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act of 2003.

    Moreover, the EACC additionally suggested that the Member of Parliament face prosecution for a single charge of Abuse of Office as outlined in Section 48 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.

    The ODPP responded by returning the inquiry file to the EACC, suggesting additional investigations on December 6, 2023.
