Pledge Loyalty to Ruto First, We’ll Back Your AU Bid – Cherargei tells Raila
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei now says there are three key things Azimio leader Raila Odinga needs to do for the Kenya Kwanza administration to endorse his candidature for the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
He said if the conditions are adhered to, then the chief opposition leader will have the full support of the Kenya Kwanza brigade.
According to the Senator, Raila should first apologize to Kenyans following 2023’s demonstrations.
He said there is a need to express regret over the aftermath of the same, including loss of lives, destruction of public properties, and deterioration of the country’s economy.
“Ya pili, akuwe loyal kwa serikali ya Rais William Ruto na Gachagua aseme anaendorse. Kwa sababu kiti ya AU haitaombwa na ODM itaombwa na serikali ya Kenya,” he added.
This is loosely translated to, “Secondly, he should be loyal to the administration of President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua. This is because an AU position will not be lobbied for by ODM but rather by the government of Kenya.”

Cherargei went on to emphasize that Raila should pledge his loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza administration, and remain so, to secure blessings for his bid.
He spoke on Saturday during a school funds drive in Nandi County on Saturday
This comes hours after Defence CS Aden Duale said the government will fully back Raila’s candidature for the AUC position.
“We have decided in unison that we support our fellow Kenyan (Raila) who is overqualified for the job. President William Ruto is not a petty leader. He is a very good National leader. And for that reason, he will lead from the front in ensuring that Raila clinches the seat,” the CS said on Friday.
Announcing the bid earlier in the month, Raila said he is ready to serve as the AUC chair, having previously held the position of AU High Representative for Infrastructure.
“I am inclined to accept the challenge and I am ready and I offer myself to be of service. I have asked my friend (Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo to continue to be a good ambassador and talk to other people,” he said then.
