    Kakamega Man Shot Dead After Attacking Officer Who Stopped Him From Hacking Mother

    On Tuesday, a 22-year-old man was fatally shot while assaulting a police officer. The incident occurred as the officer intervened to prevent the man from attacking his 68-year-old mother at their residence in Chekata, Kakamega County.

    The police report indicates that the older brother of the individual, Ian Wanjala, informed the Navakholo Police Station that Ian had equipped himself with a machete, a knife, and a hoe, and was making threats to harm their mother.

    The Station’s Officer in Charge (OCS) headed a group of officers to the location mentioned in the emergency call, discovering an armed suspect in the act of chasing the

    According to a police report, officers stepped in to pacify the suspect, but he instead became hostile towards the OCS, attempting to strike him on the head with a hoe.

    โ€œThe OCS evaded the aim, blocking with his right hand there by sustaining two broken fingers and unfortunately fell to the ground while attempting to escape. The suspect cornered him and again aimed with the jembe but before striking the OCS fired a warning round in the air,โ€ police said.

    The perpetrator continued with determination, attempting to harm the OCS who was still incapacitated. Consequently, the OCS shot the suspect in the chest.

    The suspect and the Officer in Charge (OCS) were quickly taken to Navakholo Sub-County Hospital, where the OCS was pronounced dead upon arrival.

    The OCS received initial medical assistance and was directed to Kakamega County General Referral Hospital, while the body of the deceased was transferred to the facility’s mortuary for post-mortem examination.
