Woman Caught Burying 7-Year-Old Daughter After Beating Her to Death

On Friday, law enforcement officers from Lunga Lunga in Kwale County apprehended a 30-year-old woman on charges of assaulting and fatally injuring her seven-year-old daughter.

The inhabitants of Gathini village in Kwale expressed worries when they heard distressing screams coming from the woman’s residence. Upon quickly investigating the situation, they discovered her using a chapati rolling pin to physically harm the girl.

Despite the villagers’ pleas to cease, the woman persisted in physically assaulting her under the guise of disciplinary actions.

A neighbor warned that they would report her, expressing concern that she was causing harm to the child. This led her to eventually cease her actions.

“Around 9 p.m. on February 14, the suspect was heard assaulting her daughter using a chapati roller. Neighbors intervened, and the assault stopped,” an officer based in Lunga Lunga stated.

He mentioned that on Thursday morning, the woman fled from her leased residence, heading towards her rural village while carrying the body of the girl who had died from injuries sustained in the assault.

“Upon inquiry, neighbors established that the suspect was in her rural home in Mrima village, 30 kilometers away, with the dead body of the minor, which she had ferried for burial,” the police added.

Investigators have initiated inquiries into the incident. During their initial examination, the detectives determined that the woman had enveloped the deceased body in garments, revealing evident bloodstains on the girl’s face.

“It emerged that the suspect was in her rural home preparing the burial of the dead child. The suspect went into hiding after police raided their home and recovered the body of the child,” the police stated.

The corpse was transferred to the mortuary at Msambweni Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination, assisting the police in their ongoing investigations.

In an unrelated event in Kwale, on Tuesday, February 13, a man voluntarily surrendered to the police, admitting to fatally assaulting his wife and causing harm to their one-year-old child.

Police officers from Kanani Police Station reported that the child, who suffered severe injuries, was quickly transported to Coast General Hospital for medical care.

โ€œShe sustained injuries on her head and skull from a deep cutโ€, Samburu Samburu Sub County police commander Lydia Mambo stated.
