Salasya’s Assets Seized: Auctioneers Secure Order Over Unsettled Ksh.500K Debt

A court order has been granted to auction the assets of Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, to clear a debt of Ksh. 500,000 along with accrued interest owed to businessman Robert Lutta.

Following the court’s directive for the Member of Parliament to settle the debt, the MP did not fulfill the payment obligation to the businessman who had lent him the money.

On November 27, 2023, Magistrate Gladys Kiama of Kakamega issued a judgment instructing Salasya to settle a total of Ksh.500,000, inclusive of accrued interests and legal expenses.

Armok Auctioneers has been given the responsibility of conducting the auction for the property of the Member of Parliament (MP) on behalf of the plaintiff, Robert Lutta.

The Member of Parliament has failed to settle the debt, even though the court instructed him to make the payment within one month.

The plaintiff, represented by attorney Edwin Wafula, initiated legal proceedings on October 23, 2023, alleging that he provided a loan to the Member of Parliament (MP) via KCB bank, and the MP has been evading repayment.

He presented records from the Mumias branch of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in court to substantiate his claim that he transferred the funds to Salasya’s account.

Nevertheless, Salasya refuted the allegation of obtaining a loan from the businessman. Instead, he asserted that he was the one who extended a loan of Ksh.1 million to Lutta through his political advisor, Mr. Bernard Kemba.

Magistrate Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.

Following the judgment, the Member of Parliament would face allegations of making threats to harm the magistrate’s life.

After the court decision, it was reported that the newly elected member of parliament confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom for the first time and allegedly made threats to harm her.

โ€œAt around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgment in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,โ€ read a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.
