1-Month-Old Baby Dies After Accidentally Being Put In Oven

A 26-year-old mother from Kansas City, Mariah Thomas, has been charged in connection with the horrifying death of her 1-month-old child.ย

The tragic incident unfolded on a Friday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. when the Kansas City Police Department responded to a distress call at a residence near 41st Street and Forest Avenue.

Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered an unresponsive infant, and regrettably, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the infant’s death raised suspicions among the detectives present, prompting the initiation of a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.

Subsequent details emerged from the Jackson County Prosecutorโ€™s Office on Saturday, shedding light on the shocking charges against Mariah Thomas.

According to reports, the first responders at the scene observed burns on the lifeless child, who was not breathing upon their arrival.

Thomas allegedly informed them that she had intended to put the infant down for a nap but mistakenly placed the child in the oven instead of the crib.

The Jackson County Prosecutorโ€™s Office has charged Thomas with the Class A felony of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree, Death of a Child.

Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker acknowledged the gruesome nature of the incident in a statement.

ย The charges suggest that Thomas’s actions, whether accidental or otherwise, led to the endangerment and subsequent death of her infant, warranting serious legal consequences.
