Baringo Headmaster, Who Survived Bullets as a Child, Killed in Bandit attack
On Saturday, armed bandits fatally shot a headteacher of a primary school in Baringo North Constituency.
The event occurred while Thomas Kibet, a 55-year-old principal at Kagir Primary School, was riding a motorcycle with his wife and child.
The motorcycle belonged to a police reservist who was also the rider.
While en route to a function at Kipcherer Secondary School, the educator fell victim to an ambush orchestrated by armed bandits. Tragically, he was shot and fatally wounded, while his wife and child sustained severe injuries and are currently under medical care.
As per Julius Kiragu, the Police Commander in Baringo, the educator was fatally shot in the head and succumbed to the attack instantly.
His spouse and offspring were quickly taken to Marigat Sub County Hospital, where they are currently undergoing medical care.
Kibet managed to endure a comparable assault at the age of 9 in 1978 while tending to his father’s cattle. During the incident, he was shot in the right eye by the bandits, resulting in partial blindness.

The sorrowful event occurred a fortnight following an attack by armed bandits in Graton village, Laikipia North Sub-county, where they fatally shot a National Police Reservist and caused injuries to five others.
Verifying the occurrence, Laikipia County Commissioner (CC) Joseph Kanyiri stated that security personnel were attacked while chasing the bandits who had previously raided a residence and stolen nine cows, which were subsequently recovered.
Those wounded individuals who sustained gunshot injuries to their legs are currently receiving medical care at Nanyuki Cottage Hospital. Fortunately, they are in stable condition and not in immediate danger.
As per Kanyiri’s account, the bandits managed to flee in the direction of Sieku Valley and vanished within the Mukogodo forest during the operation.
“The bandits can’t be working alone, they could be working in collaboration with some locals of Chumvi, Kimugandura, and some other areas. Mukogodo forest terrain is tortuous and unforgiving,” Kanyiri stated.
The body of the deceased was taken to a Nanyuki Hospital morgue.
