Four Police Officers Interdicted, Two Transferred Over Escape Of Murder Suspect Kevin Kang’ethe
Four police officers stationed at Muthaiga Police Station, where the sought-after murder suspect Kelvin Kinyanjui Kang’ethe managed to escape from custody, have been suspended from duty.
During a press briefing last Friday, Adamson Bungei, the head of Nairobi police, emphasized that, as a disciplinary action within the police force, two more officers responsible for supervising the four implicated policemen have been relocated to different assignments.
Bungei also disclosed that John Ndegwa Maina, the attorney representing Kang’ethe, is currently held in police custody. Maina was arrested at Muthaiga Police Station shortly after Kang’ethe’s getaway on the evening of Wednesday, February 7, at approximately 5:30 pm.
His legitimacy as Kang’ethe’s attorney came under scrutiny after the incident. However, Bungie revealed on Friday that initial investigations have confirmed his status as the authentic legal representative for the accused.
Maina, acting as Kang’ethe’s legal representative, had allegedly met with him on four occasions before his getaway.
Kang’ethe is alleged to have murdered a 31-year-old woman originally from Kenya, residing in Whitman, Massachusetts. Her body was found in a vehicle at Boston’s Logan Airport in November of the previous year.
After being apprehended in Nairobi, Kang’ethe appeared in court for a miscellaneous application, during which detectives were permitted to hold him in custody for 30 days while investigations were underway.

The court, in holding him at Muthaiga police station, observed that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) did not oppose the application regarding the gravity of the offense.
Moreover, the prosecution informed the court that numerous applications need to be submitted, including one for extradition to the United States, where the individual faces murder charges.
“There being no objection and since the DPP wants to extradite the suspect and the seriousness of this matter the accused is hereby detained at Muthaiga Police Station matter to be mentioned on 4th of March,” ruled magistrate Zainab Abdul then.
As per the investigators, the alleged perpetrator and the individual who passed away were both inhabitants of Massachusetts and reportedly were in a romantic relationship.
Initial inquiries suggest that Kang’ethe aggressively assaulted the woman, repeatedly stabbing her in the face and neck, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately resulted in her demise.
