Kenya Surges: Clinches Silver Medal for Top Health Care in Africa – Numbeo

Numbeo, the world’s largest cost of living database, has positioned Kenya as possessing the second-highest quality healthcare system in Africa.

According to Numbeo, a globally crowdsourced database on quality-of-life information, Kenya ranked second only to South Africa in providing high-quality healthcare services to its citizens.

Remarkably, among the African countries providing high-quality healthcare, Kenya stood out as the sole East African nation within the top seven.

Kenya achieved a Health Care Index score of 61.1, while South Africa surpassed this with a higher score of 64.0.

โ€œHealth Care Index is an estimation that evaluates the overall quality of the healthcare system, including factors such as healthcare professionals, equipment, staff, doctors, and costs,โ€ Numbeo explains.

The significance of the Health Care Index lies in its ability to evaluate the healthcare infrastructure, services, and resources present in a particular area.

In addition to the Health Care Index, Numbeo also employs the Health Care Exp Index, which assesses the quality of a healthcare system by highlighting its positive attributes.

In the Health Care Expenditure Index, Kenya achieved a notable score of 108.3, yet South Africa surpassed it with a higher score of 115.3.

The top seven also included Tunisia, Algeria, Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco.

South Africa and Kenya were the only countries with a Health Care Index exceeding 60, while Tunisia and Algeria recorded scores of 57.0 and 54.7, respectively.

Nigeria, Egypt, and Morocco each scored below 50 on the Health Care Index, with ratings of 48.7, 47.5, and 44.7, respectively.

The ranking coincides with President William Ruto’s administration working towards enhancing the healthcare system by implementing the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Upon complete implementation, Kenya will become part of an exclusive group primarily comprised of developed countries that provide universal health coverage for their populations.
