Babu Owino to state: Resettle Embakasi fire victims in completed affordable housing units

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has urged the government to relocate the individuals affected by the Embakasi fire to the finished residences within the affordable housing initiative.

Addressing the gathering in Embakasi on the previous day, the lawmaker emphasized that those affected by the fire should receive sufficient assistance to help them recover, encompassing support for housing, sustenance, and healthcare.

“Why shouldn’t we just resettle this people well?… The president should come out and say that the affordable housing he is offering to Kenyans should be given to the fire victims first,” the MP said.

Babu Owino requested that, on humanitarian grounds, priority be given to the victims for housing, utilizing the already finished units within the affordable housing project.

“We only need 300 units for the victims to be resettled, mbona wasiwekwe huko on humanitarian grounds because there are units that have been completed,” Babu Owino added.

The Embakasi East MP also asked the county government to ensure that the victims are fully healed and resettled well.

Acting county secretary Patrick Analo stated that the administration is working to help the impacted families get back on their feet during a press briefing on Monday.

Analo clarified that the county has identified the total number of those affected by the fire to be 761.

Those affected will be provided psychosocial support and medical fees waived, according to the county government.
